Socially distanced seating plan explained

For socially distanced events, we are limiting the number of seats on sale and we will ensure that there are unoccupied seats between parties to meet social distancing requirements.

Event listings with a socially distanced seating plan will have the following icon:

Socially Distanced Seating Plan icon

Socially distanced seating plans may vary depending on the event, but here is an example of the seating plan which is in place for many events at the Pomegranate Theatre.

Please pre-book tickets online

We understand that many customers like to pay for tickets on the door, but in order for us to provide the safest environment possible, please pre-book tickets online wherever possible. Pre-booking closes 30 minutes before the event starts.

Booking socially distanced seats on our website is stress-free as our ticketing system will automatically calculate unoccupied seats between parties, so you don’t need to worry about working this out yourself – just select your favourite seats from those that are available.

As well as guaranteeing you have a seat during a time when we have a reduced number available, pre-booking will help reduce contact and queues at the box office.

To help minimise queues further, it is not possible for Friends of the Pomegranate Theatre to make reservations for our events that have a socially distanced seating plan. However, the good news is that Friends can make bookings and pay in full for these events online.

You don’t need to collect tickets or print your tickets or confirmation email. All you need to do is have your confirmation email ready on your smart phone or tablet to show on entry to the auditorium. And, to help us reduce contact time further, we would like to request that you also have ready your seat number(s) as you will be asked for these.

Tickets for wheelchair users and carers
It is possible to book wheelchair user seats online. More specific information about booking accessible seats online is in our access guide.

Tickets for customers requiring essential companions
Customers who are not wheelchair users and require a ticket for an essential companion will need to purchase tickets by calling 01246 345 222.

Pre-book discounted food & drink online

When booking your tickets online, for most socially distanced events you can pre-order food and drink at a reduced price. See individual event listings to find out what's on the menu. If packages are available for the event you are booking, you will be asked if you would like to purchase food and drink when checking out. Pre-ordering for food & drink closes 90 minutes before the event start time.

Once you have booked your food and drink online, you don’t need to print anything. When you arrive at the theatre there will be a staff member to greet you. Just let them know that you have a food and drink package and they will point you towards the collection point. It’s a good idea to have your confirmation email on hand on your phone or tablet too.

Don’t forget that films do not have intervals so you will need to collect your food and drink before the screening starts. Most live events have intervals, but if they don't then this will be detailed on the website event listing.

You must wear your face covering during your entire visit to the theatre, including when in the auditorium. You can temporarily remove it to eat and drink when seated. Please do put your face covering back on once you finish eating or drinking.

Important note for when travelling to the theatres

The address of the Winding Wheel Theatre is Holywell Street, Chesterfield, S41 7SA.

The address of the Pomegranate Theatre is Corporation Street, Chesterfield, S41 7TX.

Car parks around the theatres and in Chesterfield town centre are open and operating as normal, but please check the Chesterfield Borough Council carparking web pages for the latest updates. Please remember to check the car park opening times before you leave your car.

Corporation Street (the street the Pomegranate Theatre is located on) is currently closed for access from St Mary’s Gate (B6543) apart from for pedestrian or push bikes.

For customers with mobility difficulties, the closest drop off and pick up point is located immediately outside the Pomegranate Theatre door on Corporation Street, which is only accessible via Spa Lane and Station Road.

The image below highlights where the street is blocked off.

On arrival at the theatre

In line with government guidance, all customers, apart from those who are exempt, must wear a face covering during their visit. Please make sure you are wearing your face covering before you enter the building. You must also keep your face covering on for the duration of your visit, including in the auditorium. You can temporarily remove it to eat and drink, when seated. You must put the face covering back on once you finish eating or drinking.

Access to the theatre is, as usual, by the main doors and to help us manage the flow of customers, you may be asked to join the queuing area outside the theatre. The area is clearly signposted, and we ask that you socially distance if you do need to wait in the queue.

If you planning to meet someone, please do this outside and in a quiet spot, away from the venue’s main entrance where other customer may be arriving.

Do not enter the theatre if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

On entry, one of our friendly Social Distancing Champions will be here to greet you. At this point you will be asked to check in using the NHS COVID-19 test and trace app, or provide details using a form which we will provide.

The government's advice is that "Venues must ask every customer and visitor (over the age of 16) for the following details (unless they have ‘checked in’ using the NHS COVID-19 app):

  • the name of the customer or visitor
  • a contact phone number for each customer or visitor. If a phone number is not available, you should ask for their email address instead, or if neither are available, then postal address
  • date of visit, arrival time and, where possible, departure time
  • the name of the assigned staff member, if a customer or visitor will interact with only one member of staff (for example, a hairdresser). This should be recorded alongside the name of the customer or visitor"

You can read more about venues' requirements to collect test and trace information on the government's website.

If you have any questions about these measures, please don’t hesitate to ask our Social Distancing Champion at the venue, but where possible, please make enquiries in advance by emailing box.office@chesterfield.gov.uk or by calling the box office on 01246 345 222.

Buying food & drink at the theatres

If you didn’t get a chance to pre-order food and drink online, don’t worry.

At the theatre, the bar will be serving a small range of soft drinks, snacks, sweets, and ice creams. If seeing a film, don’t forget that there will not be an interval so you will need to buy food and drink before the screening, or you will miss out.

Unfortunately the bar is open for collection of food and drinks only, and customers are requested to go to their seats in the auditorium, where they can consume them.

Thanks for your help

Payment is by card only and there will be a one-way system in place to get to the bar and we have added protective screens at our tills and service points. The stair lift from the foyer area to the bar/café area will not be in operation, and customers with mobility difficulties will be provided with an in-seat bar and catering service by our staff.

To facilitate social distancing, seating will not be available in the bars, and as per government regulations, customers are required  to consume drinks and snacks at their seats in the auditorium.

You must wear your face covering during your entire visit to the theatre, including when in the auditorium. You can temporarily remove it to eat and drink when seated. Please do put your face covering back on once you have finished eating or drinking.

Social distancing inside the theatres

Please help us by observing social distancing at all times and avoid waiting around in the foyer and bar areas.

Currently, people can meet up indoors with friends and family you do not live with, either:

  • in a group of up to 6 from any number of households (children of all ages count towards the limit of 6)
    OR
  • in a group of any size from up to two households (each household can include an existing support bubble, if eligible. Please be aware that online purchases are limited to booking 9 tickets per performance so if you require more than this, you will need to book by phone 01246 345 222 or in person.

We are limiting the number of seats for sale for each socially distanced event and our ticketing system will automatically ensure that there are unoccupied seats between parties.

There will be a one-way flow system and hand sanitiser in the main areas of the theatres. We have also placed signs throughout the venues to help you navigate and to remind your about distancing. Our staff will of course be present to help point you in the right direction.

Please remember that children under the age of 18 must be accompanied to the theatre by an adult at all times and this is no different for our socially distanced events.

At the Pomegranate Theatre, we request that you leave the auditorium using the emergency exits which will exit onto Back Station Lane (to the rear of the theatre).

Using the toilet facilities

To aid the safe flow of customers around the building we ask that, when possible, you use the facilities before entering the auditorium to avoid additional journeys.

The toilets will be cleaned regularly, and our staff will be managing the flow of customers entering and exiting.

To enable safe social distancing, there will be fewer toilets and basins and a maximum of one household at a time is permitted. The toilets at the rear of the auditorium will not be open. Please use the toilets in the bar area and the accessible toilet in the main lobby area which will be signposted.

Hand soap will be replenished regularly, we just ask that you please follow current hand washing guidelines after using our facilities. There will be signs detailing these guidelines.

Please use the hand sanitiser provided

We have placed hand sanitiser dispensers throughout the venues. All visitors are asked to use hand sanitiser when entering the buildings.

We have extra cleaning in place

On top of our already high cleaning standards, regular and particular attention will be paid to touch points throughout the theatre. The auditorium will be thoroughly cleaned after each event. Please help us by avoiding touching anything unnecessarily and using the bins provided for your rubbish.

Our staff have received specific training

All employees will receive specific COVID-19 training and PPE will be provided to employees where the risk assessment has deemed it necessary, in line with government requirements.

Need to know more about accessibility?

Please see our online guide for specific information regarding access. If you have any concerns when using the facilities or accessing the building, please report it to a member of staff.
